My Name is Teacher ::
A documentary short

My Name is Teacher tells the story of six new teachers adjusting to a world where they are known by their last names and must go to the bathroom at predetermined intervals. Through intimate interviews and diaries they describe how working in the classroom informs their relationship with themselves and others, the emotional intensity involved in adapting to being a teacher, and the sad and funny experiences that define their induction.

From bomb scares to porn screenings, personal revelations to broken contracts, this personal documentary is rooted in one drop-out teacher's experience. Directed by Karen Lauritsen, a former high school English teacher, the documentary reveals that teaching touches the hopes and fears in every person's heart.

My Name is Teacher profiles teachers who graduated with their MA in Education from the U.C. Berkeley Graduate School of Education in 2004.
